What is WikimartWelcome to Wikimart! Wikimart is the first online shopping mall in Russia. We are hosting hundreds of merchants who sell their merchandise to the thousands of customers daily. Wikimart serves independent merchants and online shoppers, striving to make online trade an easy, convenient, and safe experience for both parties. Wikimart was born in April 2008 in Escondido Village, Stanford University, right at the heart of the Silicon Valley. Two Stanford MBA students at the time, Max Faldin and Kamil Kurmakayev, after four months of the meticulous search for "the idea", having evaluated such extremes as bakery chain and apartment rental business, decided to build an online shopping mall in Russia. The company was launched in June 2008, and hired its first employee, CTO Pavel Makokluev the same month. The February 2009 saw the company launching its website, www.wikimart.ru. Wikimart started to "officially" serve Moscow customers. In June-July 2009 Wikimart closed its first investment round from a pool of high-profile international business angels. What’s Wikimart for an online shopper?
Online shopping is an amazing experience! But it takes careful work to bring a small merchant and an online shopper together. Here’s where Wikimart comes in, assembling the merchants together on a single platform, building trust and convenience for the buyers. What's Wikimart for a merchant?
It’s not that difficult to open an Internet store in Russia, which is easily proved by the fact there’re over 10’000 Internet stores in the country. Making a profitable business out of a small Internet store is a whole different story, however. Wikimart is an online shopping mall that helps merchants to take advantage of the latest technology and marketing scale of a shared platform. Wikimart allows a merchant to focus on his core competencies and outsource everything else to Wikimart. Wikimart charges merchants only 3% final value fee, and nothing else. Hence, a merchant only pays Wikimart if he/she actually sells.
